CIRCULAR and the 
|
Taking the forest, metaphorically and literally, as its starting point and inspiration, this publishing collaborative brings together artists, scientists, theorists, and activists from around the world within CIRCULAR, an informational online ecosystem, to co-author a FOREST MANIFESTO.
The Forest Manifesto Collaborative and the CIRCULAR peer-to-peer network will be launched in January 2027. Of Seeds, Trees and ForestsUtilising a custom app to access CIRCULAR, an online peer-to-peer invitation-based network, inaugural contributors will be asked to invite someone whose practice answers or extents their own to bring a reading of 'forest', in image and text, in theory and as practice, to this collaboration. The invited then in turn invite onward on the same terms; at times one person, sometimes two or three and so a chain grows and forks, link by link, branching and crossing like roots in a forest, until someone reads what has gathered and sees in it an art catalogue, a book, or other puplication worth making. As CIRCULAR grows, contributions accumulate, collaborations form and ideas take shape, publications emerge from within, symbiotically, eco-systemically, forest-like. The SetupThe Democracy School is CIRCULAR's originating publisher of the Forest Manifesto, but other publishers are welcome and are encoraged to join us. Participation is free and the rights to the work remain with the people (authors, artists etc) who make it. Every publishing engagement that arises through CIRCULAR, be it via the Democracy School or another publisher, is held to the CIRCULAR Fair Publishing Standard -- a published floor of fair-contract commitments that the School meets in its own publishing before asking it of anyone else.
